Suffolk x beltex

We have 60 odd cross sheep that i tupped will the cheviot last year and the resulting lambs were nothing special, so this year i had a momment of madness and bought a suffxbeltex tup hes a fair sheep,

Had a lot of sheep work to do and when i got the sheep into there tupping lots i forgot to shed off the gimmers!!

Any one an experience with this type of cross, are the easy lambing?? would i be wise getting the gimmers shed off tomorrow?

Many thanks

I know Its going back a bit, but how did your Suffolk x beltex ram perform for you

God i have had to wait almost 2years for a reply:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Really happy with him, he leaves cracking lambs, that are up and sucking in seconds, i have found him a lot easier lambed than the Texels i have had in the past, been using him on gimmers with only the odd one needing pulled! i have found the best lambs are out of our pure cheviot ewes, they seem to click very well, we lamb out side and find the lambs quite hardy and only have to watch them when it snows because they are quite bare! The tup him self is very fit and able and holds his condition well, i used a Llyen to chase him up because he had 96 ewes and when they both came away from the ewes in the end of January he was in a lot better condition even though he was out a lot longer!! if you corner him in the fank he will go for you plenty of fire in his belly!!

I would def have another(y)
