What seed dressings are people going for? Is Force worth it? Never grown beet pre neonics so not sure what a problem symphalids etc are. Going to try a bit of vibrance duo.

I haven't decided yet. part of me still wants to go all out with force, vibrance duo etc for max yield potential but the other bit of me is thinking in the absence of anything for aphids, If the crop gets byv/bmyv then cheap seed will do anyway.

I went for Force over and above the basic dressing, just in case the lot got mown off by a plague of whatever. If it can usually does here.

Final yield 85 t /ha here. Thought there wasn't going to be crop at one time but it's put a lot on during the last month. Sheep will be eating plenty of the over quota tonneage. Applied for more quota but don't know if I'll get it. We were out of beet for eight years and have been surprised by the step change in yield since that time. Downside is we didn't apply for enough contracted tonneage when we started growing again so we have kind of limited our profitability.

i've got ppl who've said they're happy to supply ...but only when they've met quota:scratchhead:....given they moan about low prices from bs i someone will think 'im going to make quota...i'll have some of that'.....wait til season is over and c beet may be worth nowt....i won't want them once sheep are housed.
There will be plenty of sheep and beef farmers who will want c beet after the factories are shut this year.

I'm too far away, sorry.

there might be.....but it might not be £30t.....i mean where is the logic in moaning about next years price but obsessing about making this years quota:scratchhead:
Fair point! Need someone very close to you really, as £22.50/t to BS, plus another 15%? due to higher sugars, minus a bit of soil and top tare, plus a bit of potential late delivery bonus, could be worth £25-6/t ish to BS only leaving £4-5 for loading, cleaning, haulage, and any extra potential margin to you so need to be very near. Doubt we will make quota, and may well feed some to the cattle or sheep if it is cheaper than the alternatives. Not bothered about next year's quota, doubt BS will get enough grown anyway.

we're on edge of area between cantly and wissi....my agronomist reckons ppl dumping beet next year round here....i wonder at what stage bs will consider closing a factory

when i grew beet i would know by now roughly how much c quota i'd have....so i'dve thought ppl would be calculating:scratchhead:....i mean i know i have enough fb to run til jan...so if i don't get any i'll just have to house and run on malt nuts + straw before switching to hay a month out

would have thought someone would have some spare, but drought has hit root yields hard in some fields / part fields, despite sugars being up. Probably doesn't help with BS online portal not working for several weeks so growers can't access delivery info so easily!:banghead: If commodity prices remain similar next year, sugar beet will be worth more to feed than for sugar! Will see if any factories get shut, but wouldn't be surprised, the future for beet in the hands of BS does not look great.
