Summer cover crop?

I just saw an opportunity to reduce the BG seed bank outside a crop as more valuable in the short term than a cover crop for longer term soil health whilst not breaking weed seed dormancy. How about something cheap and lowish seed rate you wouldn’t mind aborting if you got a good weed flush? Mustard for example.

Mustard was the one we were thinking of to be honest. Is it to late for DD maize?

Are they really worth growing ,.
Have got 15 acre of green top ,spuds lifted , is it worth putting any thing in it to grow ,
Dont have direct or striptill drill , just disc coulter, power harrow combi ,so how do you destroy it for drill to run ,and keen on using less glypho.
Light structure less flinty shite ,that goes down like a road ,dont want to plough to keep any spuds on top ,
Will be going winter malting barley drilled ,3 rd week september

If keeping ground keepers on top, no if that’s what you want controlled. Any sheep locally who might fancy some grazing? A quick forage rape crop and a set of hooves would get rid of a few spuds.
