Summer cover crop

Unfortunately I have a reasonable sized area which is not going to get drilled with cereals in the near future. I am planning to put it into a summer cover and then back into wheat next year.
Does anyone know what date we will be able to apply for the summer covers from? I already have a live SFI agreement which started Feb 1st, so I assume I would have to run 2 agreements? Or will there be a possibility to add these new standards into existing agreements in lieu of the weather? Similarly does anyone know when we are going to be able to see the final information for the new standards?

you would need a additional agreement is my understanding as i’ve been told you can’t make changes to existing agreements

also be aware that whatever you do re sfi this year you will have to do at least 50% area for the remaining 2yrs of the agreement

you can apply now

the new options announced in January not live yet, not sure when but i was told unofficially “in time for harvest” by someone

DEFRA will release the new standards for SFI well before harvest as they promised in their Propaganda broadcasts.. the exact date is still unknown and will probably co incide with a political event or a knighthood or honours event rather than to allow practical farmers to plan ahead well before harvest.... remember it is US as the end user who is least important to the SFI scheme

Just plant some sunflowers or another C4 plant when it dries up... winner and you can stick with SFI plan A rather than turn your farm into a complex CS/HLS type system which requires serious commitment...
