Hello, we have a maxxum 125, and we want to get into doing more of the minimum till stuff, so that we dont need to plough. We would like to have something like a 3M sumo trio, but i dont think the tractor would pull it? What sort of power do the sumos need through clay and through sand? i know they do a 2.5M one but I think if we are going to do it at all we would want to do it properly and go for the 3M one. My guess is that we would have to wait till the trade in for the maxxum and go up to a puma for the extra weight and power. Thoughts?

Run a Fendt 724 240hp on a 3m trio on good to heavy silt loam and 10 inches will easily make it cough 5-8kph. But if 6+ inches 180hp will manage it but don’t underestimate weight 1600kg will just keep nose down at times we also run wheels weights.

We have one and it needs 200hp really. Get a s/h shakerator and a little set of mounted discs, like an Amazone Catros, which will be managed by your tractor. You get added flexibility too, as the Trio moves a lot of ground which is not what you always want.

How much have you got to do or intend on doing that way. You can cover alot of ground with a 2.5m one. Even if you eventually get a bigger tractor you can just speed up and get the soil boiling and do a better job. Or put the legs in deeper if its dry enough.
Then again it can always look pretty sitting in the shed when the weather isn't right and you've had to get the plough back out 😕

About 120ish acres in rotation, but hopefully we will get more in the not too distant future.

A 2.5m will cover more than that a season they only have 4 legs now so as long as your 125 can lift it comfortably it should cope with it. We initially pulled ours with a 125hp valtra was light on the front end but pulled it well

If it’s of any use a trailed 3m to use the legs properly and have forward speed to get the discs mixing needs 300hp on clay loam soils. On full on clay the tractor would drop down to around 5km/hr.

Well we don't want to go deep, only going in the top 4-6 inches. Think a 2.5 might be the way to go then so long as its not going to be too small when we eventually get a bigger tractor

I’d look at a simba xpress with st tines on the front they will be lighter more flexible as you can run with or without the tine part. Your tractor might lift it and pull it. We have a 3m sumo and a tractor that will pull it but I feel now I’m going more into dd that a simba would be better to sort out problem areas rather than the sumo which there if very little minimum about it

We have a 3m xpress st. It is easier pulled than a 2.5 sumo was but the st bar is more a cultivator tine , bringing up wet lumps in heavy going and the packer is too light for strong land imo , I always try and Cambridge roll after it .

I'd like to find a set of low disturbance legs for mine as they might give the light packer a better chance of a nicer finish .

We are after something with a ducksfoot tine like those shakerators have. Is that what the ST is?

If your ground is not too stoney or shallow have a look at a weaving sub disc.
