Sumo trio rape drill

We've been sowing rape with the sumo since 2012 putting seed in front of the roller and getting good results with it .

But last summer we got a lot of rain just after drilling and I think a combination of low seed rate and some being buried too deep in the light ground we had some patchy stuff.

So I set to in the workshop with a load of old metal etc to make up a trial setup from old accord coulters other than my time the only cost is longer pipes and some new bolts so we can see if we get any better results this time .

I think the only thing I'd do now is try to get granular fert in the same place as the seed but that's a project for another year

Looking at doing something similar with our weaving LD but would it be better to invest in some double disc openers with press wheels off weavings and be even more accurate plus firming the slot ?

Each to they're own to be honest I know people with the sumo discs on the back and they don't get any more of a crop than we do and they'll have had a substantial investment to fit them . The consolidation thing I'm not sure about I've seen is double roll the bad bits to break them down a bit and pack it better.

How much pressure can the wheel behind a seeding disc apply ?

Until this year we've not had any real issues before but we always sowed on the heavy side 3kgs/ha + so had plenty plants but seed was tight this year so had nowt to play with under 2kgs/ha. Our crops will be fine but just want to try a few things out before committing now I can drill in front of the roller or behind down pipes or broadcast and through the coulters as well so will try a few things out this summer to see if anything works better .
