I'm a beef and sheep farmer, and I get as angry and annoyed at vegans as much as the next beef and sheep farmer. I've been trying to look at it from a different way recently though. Even if veganism is just a fad, the climate change agenda doesn't seem to be going away any time soon, perhaps its our job as farmers to produce what people want to eat opposed to trying to force them to eat what we produce. I'd like to produce I can sell to vegans alongside the beef and lamb, but not sure what yet. Although I'd much prefer beef and lamb to be marketed better to show its health and environmental benefits.

I like the fact they are keeping it separate, it helps to avoid confusion over what people are buying.
They should also have a separate aisle for imported food and another for organic.
That combined with clear labelling should help them see clearly what people actually want.

In that case they’ll also need an aisle for cheap food 👍

Well the local vegan deli/restaurant has announced via their Facebook page that they are having to cut down their hours to a Friday and Saturday only..... on the other hand the butchers are all doing a roaring trade..... make of that what you will but the consumer knows what’s best for them. Its the media (funded by fake food manufacturers) trying to convince them otherwise we need to worry about as they aren’t going to give up on a billion pound potential industry.

I used to be a dairy farmer and I felt the same as you. I used to hate them. I’ve tried to educate myself about it. I definitely don’t think the climate crisis / awareness is going away. It is only going to build more steam in the coming years and there is certainly a MASSIVE push for plant based. With the potential for a labour government in a few years I know they’ll be pushing for environmental changes (higher taxes to meats etc like our sugar tax) I think we rely a lot on the older generation, but the younger ones coming up seem much more environmentally conscious, and the worry is with KFC Greggs committed to plant based options, and with the recent announcement that mc Donald’s will be launching a whole plant based line. It would be burying our heads in the sand to deny that veganism isn’t building steam especially among the young, (the older milk and meat eaters won’t be around forever)

Growing vegetables has enabled me to educate my kids privately you probably met them when you were teaching.
And the reject veg we feed to the cows so we get the best of both worlds.
Probably met who when I was teaching? I grow veg too now, used to be a dairy farmer.

Well you said you taught at Eton. Our kids used to play Eton at sports so maybe your paths crossed. Who knows it’s a small world.
That’s true they might have! How long ago? I taught Philosophy Ethics and History, definitely went down for some home rugby. But left around 2018 now to start my own business.
