what is a new job. I thought farming was 24/7 365. anybody with livestock will have new work everyday. Arable farmers would start harvest as soon as fit. Just my opinion

Doesn't seem long ago you couldn't get a drink on a Sunday.
It wasn’t that long ago. As a child in the 1960s there were plenty of instances when one county would be ‘dry’ and a neighbouring one ‘wet’. It was in 1961 that the ban was repealed, allowing individual counties to decide whether or not to allow pubs to open on Sundays.

I think the last bastion of Sunday temperance was Caernarfonshire in the late 1990s.

I can remember being asked to play cricket in Cardigan on a sunday, not a chance I thought, until it was explained that members clubs were allowed to open and the cricket team drank in the rugby club.
