Supplying props to film crew

I have been asked to supply some of my more rustic stuff for a TV gameshow filming locally. It's for a day basically an old tractor, trailer and plough a number of buggered water troughs old tyres and a few other bits and bobs. Question is what should I charge. Reckon it will take half a day to load on a trailer deliver and same again to take back.

Would rather replies from people who have done similar in the past rather than random think of a number and double or the old @grumpy phrase of about 6000 pounds.🤔😎

Anything else I should be aware of insurance etc..

Cheers BB

I’ve had a few dealings with film crews, missed out on Fury Though sadly, was next door 😡

Some have been very enjoyable, others outright scandalous.

Find out what their budget is, loads of people make films on shoe string budgets, they can only afford to pay you a few hundred for your help.

Some however have eye watering budgets and would think nothing of accepting your quote for 5k for Props For 24 hrs.

With the above in mind decide how much time you have, it will be a fascinating day for you seeing how it is all done, 3 days Filiming can make just a few seconds of the final film.

Be sure to bring a good book along if you do go, things can take hrs.

amazing to see how they had changed the final cross roads for the film from how it was normally

I do loads of location work, and occasionally they ask for some of my more "rustic" cr@p as dressing etc.

As mentioned above, do find out about more about it.

Do not under estimate the time required. There might be quite a lot of "can you just move it 6 inches this way" etc.

Sadly my hunch is that a game show wont have much budget.

If it's a day to load and transport, and a day of filming, and it's a few big items, I'd probably start at 2k and see what they say. Bear in mind that one instance that sticks in my mind is that 8 years ago a police minibus was £6-700 a day on its own.

charge your time like any other job, unless they show signs of unrealistic budget excess...in which case make hay while the sun shines.
If they're too impoverished, walk.

Ask them what they expect to pay............ and then haggle them higher.

Realisticaly you have at least a days work supplying it all............ not at farmers rates....... so more like £300 plus a day...... plus the hire of all the gear.

Not really sure but Renault are filming an advert here tomorrow & just wanted some drone footage of our fields & offered £500

Advert filming always have a big budget, so money sloshing around.

Was a good while ago but had to deal with one of the large game show production companies. I would go with the think of a number and double it. They were bad at paying and the final invoice was never paid. Not much money but annoying when you know how much money they make. So be very clear with what you want and get it written down. In my case it was a lot of hassle and I think I should have charged more.
