Waiting on my renewals to come through the now. The forms say not to send them anywhere, that you've to wait for them to contact you. Licences are up at the end of January. I've generally had no issues at all with them other than being hopelessly slow. My initial SGC grant took 6 months. You can bet they would have had all the air weapon stuff dumped on them with no increase in staffing to compensate.

My friend just renewed his which ran out on a Friday. He phoned on the Thursday to see if he needed to put his guns in storage and they said "sit tight your licence is in the post". That put him in a perilous position over the weekend it must be said. Not sure if I'd have believed them.

Chap I knew had a visit from the Police, his licence had run out. They confiscated his gun, checked the gun cabinet, where were the keys kept etc ? He got his licence renewed and went down to the station to collect his gun. Police couldn't find it, they had no record of it coming in and their gun cabinet was empty. He was beginning to panic until someone found the weapon behind the open door of the lost property room.

I got a letter back in September about renewal. Seven sides of A4. About the same time, I changed two bank accounts. Does anyone ever read all this crap? Anyway, I downloaded the FAC application forms from the Internet and set to.

The first forms were out of date. Why doesn't anyone uploading stuff put the date on it? OK, so downloaded the second recent lot, filed them in, and sent them off. A couple of weeks ago, plod at the door with a report of two dead horses in my field and vicious dogs. Confirmed, perfectly legal to put down old horses for humanitarian reasons, met the dogs which weren't vicious, checked guns. None of the serial numbers were on the documentation I had been given when my guns were returned for the second time. The first time I discovered they'd given me the wrong documentation, I deposited my guns with my local FAD, this time I haven't bothered.

Second visit, this time with clip board wielding plod ready to talk me through completing the forms. I told him I had done this weeks previously. Referees confirm that they've been contacted. Certificates due for renewal at the beginning of January.

According to the Firearms Acts, the correct thing to do is to apply for an interim certificate under Section 7. Just emailing for the forms now.

1. 14.6 The various forms for issuing permits are:
   1. i) Form 111, this authorises, under section 7(1) of the 1968 Act, the possession (unless the terms indicate otherwise) of firearms and ammunition to which section 1 of the 1968 Act applies. The permit must give details of the firearms and ammunition it covers, and must show the date on which it expires.
   2. ii) Form 112 is similar to Form 111 but related to shot guns. It should specify the shot guns to which it relates (see paragraph 14.3 about the purchase of section 2 ammunition). This permit does not allow the possession of Section 5(1A)(a) disguised shot guns held on a shot gun certificate as part of a collection.

So what? I thought that was standard procedure?

This is why I insisted on a receipt for my guns. Sadly, the officer in charge didn't know what a receipt was and issued me with a document headed, "Received from the Chief Constable....". I tried to explain that I hadn't actually received anything from the CC but was told, "Well, it's the one we always use".
