The housewife (or househusband) in the Supermarket knows nothing about farm assurance, but they are not your customer.

Your deal is with a grain merchant or a fatstock buyer (or another farmer if you sell stores). It is these people who decide if you make a profit or a loss when you market your produce.
They are the end customers but why would the supermarket tell them about rt that may help the farmer and we can't have that can we

Out of interest, how many of you passed there first RT inspection without any non compliances but then (without anything being different) got non compliancies in subsequent visits? i.e. lulling you into a false sense of security to start with.

It does not appear that much changes year on year with non compliance to RT rules, so is the scheme failing on certain points.
Take this for example, I have looked over each yearly review from 2012/13/14/15 and selected Beef and Lamb.
The snips below are from each years review.

2012

A similar pattern appears on the review for the combinable crops, but with those the non compliance is with sprays and sprayer records.

Now, either the reviews are simply a copy and paste job, year on year, or,the scheme is failing consistently on the same points.

Interesting thread, along with other threads regarding Assurance on TFF.

Time for the NFU, CLA etc to take this up at meetings in their ivory towers and start earning their corn.

As it appears the NFU have a vested interest, against their members wishes, I will be cancelling my membership unless something is sorted, as I detest how RT has progressed.

For real?

My (half serious) suggestion would be for TFF members to devise their own scheme, which would help people move away from more established schemes.

OK, thanks, I see where you are coming from now. But I wouldn't start from acreages, that, in my opinion is where the NFU went wrong. Acreages can be very misleading when it comes to true representation of farmers.

Just to clarify, Red Tractor is the body that owns the brand and sets the standards. This is the body that complaints need to go to otherwise they will just carry on regardless.

The inspections are carried out by separate companies, these are the only people farmers come into contact with within the scheme.

Slightly off topic... I have a lion code audit on Monday for a feed mill I recently had installed, and the auditor has just rung me to say he is being audited which I already knew, however he then said the person who is auditing him is also being audited!! [emoji35]
What a bunch of jobsworths!

From the NSF Agriview Newsletter:

COMMON REASONS FOR
COMBINABLE CROP DELIVERY
POINT REJECTIONS
Every week we receive delivery point rejections from mills
around the country. These are treated exactly the same as
a non-conformance that you might receive at an audit. To
close out the non-conformance you have 28 days to send
us details of what happened to the rejected load, how the
problem was dealt with and what will be done in to the
future to reduce the risk of the problem occurring.
>
Ergot contamination –
Discussed on page 8
>
Insect contamination –
Corrective actions must be
supplied to the certification body or, depending on the
severity of the infestation, a re-visit may also be set up
>

Rat droppings –
Instant suspension from the scheme
until investigation has been carried out (you may
receive a re-visit)

>
Mould / smell –
Corrective actions must be supplied
to the certification body

Have you read what they are WASTING our hard earned on...................Stand at Crops with hospitality ect.. where a tiny fraction of the farmers who pay their wages go. Sposoring some other thing as well. would be far better to reduce the cost to us farmers who pay for their extarvagances.

Juts had my Red Tractor, GTAS Store and Lab assessments

all past, no non compliances (again)...........................and no mouse problem !

at least some assessors have some idea of common sense, something those that create these schemes sat behind desks and with little actual on farm experience should take note of !
