Yes I agree with that, and it doesn't seem to register at government level. Not a problem at the moment they would probably say.I think you're missing the point, I'm sure we would all prefer that the subsidies stopped & prices were realistic but that will never happen for as long as the EU & the devolved UK governments are prepared to subsidise their farmers properly then we will be forced to compete with them & when prices eventually start falling English farmers will be at a serious disadvantage.
Exactly, us store sellers were just shafted by the buyers. They only looked at the hammer price to value their purchases, ignoring the uplift they got a few weeks later.Variable Premium doesn’t do much to help the true hill flocks though.
We have some land that won't be viable once subsidy has gone.You're missing the point which is that subsidies allow uneconomic practices to continue. Why should we need them at all?
People will never value food while there's too much of it.
The corporate food system loves subsidies. They can buy at the cost of production and the supply keeps coming. There's always another mug to work for nothing.
