Swallows 2020

Interesting thought that one about lockdown . Never occurred to me . But I'll be glad if it's true. I have no personal experience of the annual slaughter , with "mist nets" and bird lime , and all the other associated methods . but I'll be glad if the present situation helps . There was another thread on this forum asking whether corvids returned and used the same nests as last year . I was sitting in the sun this aft. and I watched 2 pairs of jackdaws arguing about which disused chimney belonged to them . This has happened every year , with broods hatched in the chimneys , and occasional big chicks fallen out of the nest into the room , behind the blanked off fireplace . Very peevish indeed they are too , when I've rescued them ,- not a bit grateful ! :) :) (But no swallows )

My Grandparents generation didn't turn cattle out to grass until they saw two swallows.

I'm still waiting to see my first pair, but we do have a few cows out .................. they will be turning in their graves !!

But your Grandparents' generation would know about apostrophies. apostrofies. bugger, can't spell it.

May 13th used to be termed ''grass day''.

But regardless of any effect of climate change, I reckon that grass with a good lime, P&K and Nitrogen status, and which is given chance to grow without being eaten into the ground, has brought grass day forward by at least a month.
