just seen this before i posted , i would like to know if my right indicator ceased working when crossing over in to fast traffic
The reason the law was relaxed was due to Led lights, you can have a resistor to make it tell you, but its only telling you the resister is working which it will, when the light isnt.

Pretty certain on toyotas the 7 pin wiring is connected to rear lights on truck by just pulling a plug apart and plugging in another plug inline for trailer lights

How often do you get total led indicator unit failure..... Unheard of.
Individual LEDs within the unit, or wiring to the light is common, but pretty much never the actual led light itself having a total fail.

Connection could fail anywhere before the actual LED lights. In this case between the resistor and LED. How likely is that to happen? Who knows?

Weve LED lights on the stock trailer.
I didn install the resitors, so not indicator that they are working. They have never failed, however, the plug sometimes does, so I will fit the resistors as that will advise of the wiring is cconnected as well.

I may well swap over to 13 pin also, as the plug is better, though I would only connect the existing 7 wires... (6 actually, as no fog light)

I'm a big fan of the 13 pin plug. It is far more secure and seems more reliable than 7 pin.

when using a 13 pin set up do people find that the pins are more easily damaged ? was speaking to some one who looked after a fleet of estate vechiles and since fitting 13pin plugs found there was more damage with people not lining up the pins propery before pushing in.

Probably because people think they just pull out or push in like a 7 pin.

No. Categorically not. It fits easily every time and is secured by a gentle twist of the collar. However there is no accounting for morons who may try to force things, making a meal of the simplest and easiest of tasks.
