Swimming pools and RHI

a pool is being discussed around the kitchen table, much to my horror!

however if I can link it up to the biomass at least the heating costs will be low.

what are the rules, assume it has to be wholly enclosed, would a Perspex / metal walk over frame be enough?

does anyone have any stats on how much an average sized (100,000 litre) would need to heat up and maintain? Obviously variables like OAT and insulation but just trying to work out if my ‘second wife‘ has capacity to heat it before this goes any further!

100,000 is a serious pool
mine is 30 x 10 x 4 feet. That is a fair size for swimming , but must not dive!
we have an abresud cover check them out. It certainly helps the heat retention and you can swim in pretty inclement weather
edit mine is 8,000 gallons 34,000 litres

Grey area possibly?

if it’s sealed it’s not, know a public pool that’s done it.

I may have got figures wrong then, very early days. This was what I read as an ‘average’ size. Is your covered?
Shouldn't be allowed anyway for RHI.

i didn’t make the rules ?‍♂️

Lockdown is not forever, I am sure public swimming pools really will reopen one day!! You can certainly heat a pool using biomass... you don't say if your biomass is getting RHI payments and if commercial or domestic...

I think swimming pools covered or otherwise are now largely RHI ineligible.

Existing set up is for commercial, grain store and farm house.

been advised that no RHI for private pool but possibly if pool is rented out.

aldo, should be able to heat the space if wholly enclosed.

You can’t no longer, under the change of eligibility, add a private pool to your existing set up , you could meter it and deduct the kw used.

You can heat the pool room but not the water.
(If attached to main building and included on the heat loss - this will contribute huge heat loss and bring the EPC grade down though, like conservatories which are a pain in the ass to heat)

Having bought a property with a large pool, all I can say is be deaf and don't install one. They are nothing but time consuming, trouble. We've been here 6 years and I'm only now getting the hang of keeping it clean and clear. You'll see pictures of sparkling clear water but it's not easy to achieve and the chemicals are expensive.

It would be cheaper and a lot less hassle to buy permanent subscription for your family to the nearest gym with a pool.

Not to mention the safety angle.

Had my pool for 12 years, and yes they are a bit of work. However ifyou kerp a close eye on the chlorine levels i, it is not too bad. Running a salt water pool makes life a lot easier
