Swivel hitches on trailed implements

Is there meant to be some kind of benefit to them other than stopping the tractor turning over if the implement goes over? Slurry tanker and forage wagon both bang like f*ck when turning and wear the towing eye and the hook of the tractor more than a fixed one would. Gonna weld them solid

Both the timber trailers had swivel hitches. If they didn’t a fixed hitch would have been wrecked crossing ditches and humps.
Both were the same as attached to a Bedford army wagon. The difficult part was lining it up to unhitch when at 90 degrees to its resting position. Ok with the forwarder but more difficult with the pole trailer.

Yes, as well as the turnover issue, they are generally a higher load rating than a standard 40mm H/D weld on ring hence them being fitted to towed machines like tankers, forage wagon, high cap trailers & cultivators which can all have fluctuating loads ( & they are easier to change when worn )

I wouldn’t be welding them myself.
Chap I spread lime for welded the swivel hitch on the spreader cos it was worn, lucky his welding broke when the spreader went over, rebuilt the swivel hitch properly after that.
the spreaders were on the clevis hitch so they didn't bang about

Any one using nylon washers on trailed stuff.my spearhead batwing came with washers to fit between drawbar on tractor and towing eye on machine.I thought it woukd last about 5 minutes but pretty much unmarked after lots of use.

Yeah pretty common overhere on pitonfix hitches, but they have enough support for the whole ring where as a clevis only supports most of the front.

I need a new one (it's the lower one, the top one is a K80).

I get the impression that these hitches were only designed for the European market where the use different style hitches, as Gerbert showed. They seem like they were never designed to be used with UK style pickup hooks and I wonder if there is any potential legal issues mixing them up.

Most of the ones we've had on implements had to go on the clevis drawbar instead of a pickup hook. The swivel ring on the old masters driers were too small bore to even fit on a pickup hook.
