Swollen knee

Had an easy day at work on Thursday, mostly sat on a tractor with a bit of walking about etc, got home at 4, at about 6 went to kneel in the workshop and my left knee wouldn't bend fully.

From thereon it got more and more painful when even just sitting, could hardly walk.
Very broken sleep.

Friday it was less painful, could walk around with a limp, easy day sat on a tractor but made sure I kept it moving.

Now it's so painful it's woken me up early hours of Saturday morning.

Painkillers taken.

Any guesses, should I go doctors? Carry on? Rest it?

I find nothing makes my knees more sore than a long day bouncing round on the tractor (Except kneeled on concrete!). I think the constant bouncing and bending doesn’t do them any good at all, also riding Mx when I was younger and a road bike accident meaning I have two screws through one doesn’t help either mind 🤦🏻‍♂️.

However if it’s painful, swollen and hot to the touch you want to be getting it looked at ASAP as it sounded infected. Take some Ibuprofen to help with the swelling for a start.

My left knee is not good, years of pushing the clutch when baling before shuttles on tractors became a thing ! (a possibility of rugby and falling off motorbikes may not have helped !) When to a knee specialist a couple of years ago privately and he explained that nowadays it's the constant flexing when sitting on a suspended seat that does as much damage and that tractor seats may have become better for your back but ironically have become far worse for other parts of your body ! I have learned to "manage" my knee problem as the NHS response is just to give you pills and go away until your older it seems ! I will need a knee replacement at some point in the future but that's a good few years off ! I find a ice pack works wonders and when my knee "locks" just getting my leg to straighten despite the pain is the best thing to do !

My right knee started swelling up. Got stiffer and stiffer. Woke up one morning, couldn’t bend it. Went for scan privately, other wise long NHS wait. Loose piece of cartilage in joint.

I’ve got the same, torn cartilage. has flared up now for about three weeks, worst it’s been this weekend. Pain is there constantly now, sleep is very intermitten. Have had MRI scan etc, awaiting surgery now. Alternating some ibuprofens, voltarol gel and tried some uddermint cream aswell!!!!

@TripleSix get some ice or frozen bean bags on it, does make a difference for a while. I’ve got loads of physio exercisis to do to strengthen musles but been warned not to oush it when swollen
