Swollen wheat seed

I need to share a photo of my roadside "low seed rate experiment", 12mth old SPD treated seed, next to new seed..
Sure it will be fine, but frustrating and just another unwelcome hassle.
You shouldn’t have kept to the law of sod and done the trail plot by the roadside... 🙄

I haven’t seen it in conventional as working the ground usually drys it out so much that it waits for rain. I’ve seen it direct drilling wheat into grass leys when it’s rock hard but still has enough moisture to rot it but not enough to germinate
Have you got any more info on this? sounds like it’s been one of my many many disasters with DDing WW into 3yr grass let this Autumn! Drilled late September in the dry and then had 2” of rain in 24hrs a week later, only the shaded headlands which I guess had more moisture have done any good… everything has been against me with my wheat this year, absolutely fed up!!

Just seen your other thread what was done with the grass in the last 3 years? A grass ley isn’t just a grass ley there will be huge difference in a ley put down and topped a couple of times to one that’s grazed mucked and silaged etc. Also what drill?

3yr ley (20% clover) cut three times a year for silage only when suitable to travel. Pig slurry on once two of the years at 20m3/ha and digestate on one year at 40m3/Ha. FYM at approx 20t/ha this September, harrowed after a week then drilled at 250kg/ha of Crusoe with a weaving gd the double rolled and pre emd. Had a good dig around last winter and really good soil structure under the vast majority of it, loads of worms.
