System Moore

Direct into the stubble? Having the serrated discs stall sounds peculiar unless the coulter was set too tight to the disc.
It was a new drill, all was working as it should and they had run a Sulky Moore type before it

They were having issues and then decided to cultivate a strip which was worse as you might imagine, so I finished it off with the Horsch.

It's just very puffy soil with a lot of trash, the Moore Coulter is very similar to the Vaderstad one albeit different dimensions and mounted differently, if a Vaderstad is struggling is a Moore type going to be vastly different ??

We have a 3m Sumo Moore Versadrill, it does work well in a huge range of conditions. Cultivated ground usually needs rolling first, I personally don't think the front wheels do much for consolidation, more for depth control or to flatten a cover crop. Have you tried rolling a bit once or even twice to see if it helps the Vaddy? Surely cheaper than buying another drill just for this year

Its more bringing the drill purchase forward than just for this year, and the fluffy dry has now passed 40mm of rain in 2 days has altered the conditions considerably, its now to wet to drill :banghead: Rolling didn't help I'm afraid

Just as a note of caution, I finished off a field of second wheat drilling for my neighbour as her Sky drill was suffering like a Vad would ie bulldozing through lack of “bite” the discs are very similar on both machines after all...

The Borgault equipped Sprinter finished off the field fine !!
Tell your neighbour to check the height of the gap between the coulter and the tip of the disc.

From the Sky manual.
If using the drill on very crumbly soil, or soil with a lot of plant debris, you are advised to raise the coulter to around 20 mm from the opening of the disk notches to make sure the disk is able to rotate.

The Moore manuals mention inceasing it up to 40mm, although that is measuring from the tip of plain discs rather than from the notches in a disc.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but whats the difference between the System Moore drill, and the ones that aren't system moores. Seen two DP300 drills today one with System and one without and curious as I want one to just dd into grass.
