Just totted up our rainfall. 1st October 2018 - 31st March 2019 is 592.4mm

What have you boys up east had?

I put my name on some KWS Extase for this autumn this afternoon (y) first part of the CTL mitigation plan.
We’ve had about 5mm in the last month! I booked 10t extase a few weeks ago also. The other two main varieties are Siskin and Costello so will carry on with them. I did plant seed plots of skyscraper and spotlight but not so sure not Ctl has gone and not sure I can get best markets for them.

IN Mid Lincs we have had 229mm over the same period. Our average would normally be 292mm

I don't grow Siskin here but just look at that graph for siskin! Essentially flag leaf only!
Well as ever that comes down to risk perception. Any variety will benefit from protection in a wet spell. I would agree varieties such as Siskin don’t justify SDHI type expenditure here. As others have pointed out extase looks like a step on, we’ve got 15% of that next year, it will be interesting to see how it’s YR resistance holds up when widely grown.

Would be interested to hear you’re thoughts. I thought it was fairly eye opening.

I need to read & think about the research before I can comment fully. We've had 5 days of septoria rain splash event in the last week which I don't think you guys in the East have had, so there will be some regional calibration to apply the findings properly. It goes without saying that a low input programme will have to be timed perfectly to avoid lifting dose rates for reactive curative control.

2018 Yellow Rust did not appear in untreated crops of very susceptible varieties until well into May, this year it has been visible for some time and is taking a bit of digging out of the very susceptible varieties. The difference is lack of a 'beast from the east' a few days of serious sub zero temperatures as good as a T0 fungicide. Hey ho.

Last year was very wet at this time, we still had some standing water at the end of May. This year has been completely different so far......
That's the thing about our business, what's a typical year??
This year is early for what's a cool dry spring !!

If it was easy everybody would be doing it ( Rodney)

So what is everyone leaning towards at the moment? Obviously different in different parts of the country but interesting to here nontheless.

We're are not short of rain here though it has been cold until today. I'm pretty certain I'm going down the "protect my investment" route and will probably go for and SDHI and CTL. I'm a week away at least still but probably aim for Aviator or Adexar at 1 lt/ha and potentially furtively plan Elatus Era or Ascra for no other reason that I'm use something with a bit more in it at T2.

Last year my T2 was 1 litre of CTL as we had the longest dry spell in years here. If I had no rain in the offing I'd probably consider that at T1 and then at least be ready to top up if you did get a big rain event. Just my views of what I'm observing at my place (not an agronomist) :)

Rain risk for next week diminishing rapidly. Leaf 3 25% emerged. (Didn't start drilling till 28 October). Thinking currently 2l/ha of Manitoba only.
