T3

the complicated bit is "if I could reliably get 9.3t/ha untreated" Question is can we? I would be happy at 8.5T/ha untreated!
Do you actually think we can do that? On a normal wet year 3t/acre is acceptable, so no fungicides i would estimate yields around 2-2.5t/a.
How does 6t/ha suit you?

I’m struggling with my T3 timing on my wheat. A few heads are right out and giving out pollen. Some are just emerging from the boot but not fully emerged and not flowering. Some are half emerged and flowering. Some aren’t emerged at all. About 25% in each category. My target is fusarium. Spray tonight before it gets showery again or wait. I’m inclined to spray tonight mainly because I’m sick of pissing about with it.

Get it on the ears that are out and then go back next Tuesday at 5.55pm to catch the later appearing ears. I will send you through the recommendation sheet.

I nearly didn’t bother with a T3 this year but as my supplier pointed out; it does allow a nice big tick in the fusarium risk assessment which otherwise could make you risky. Interestingly, with any fusarium activity disappearing after mid flower, this year I would have had to apply 2 weeks after T2 if I had done it to try and achieve this. So mine just got teb to top up disease control. Hardly any septoria in south lincs; loads of yellow rust. YR fast becoming the disease to treat for here with septoria secondary. Trendy chemistry looks to be struggling unless mixed with teb.

There is some nasty Septoria on early / mid September sown crops in Lincolnshire.

I have Firefly, Leeds, which has received £120 hectare of fungicide with only flag leaf and part leaf 2 left. Had 0.8 elatus or 1 Ascra plus an old fashioned chemical T1, 1 Arizona at T1.5 flag leaf tipping and then 1 Verydor at flag emergence. T0 was Teb. And at T1, 1.5 and 2 further Tebuconazole.

Similar on Gleam and Parkin mid September sown Holbeach area.

Yet later sown October and November clean to leaf 5. Sowing date known to be linked to severity of Septoria epidemic.

Interesting thoughts for the future.

We didn’t drill anything until November partially due to late seed delivery (and order). The crops look well and very clean. They have had no grass weed herbicide at all. There is a fair bit of AMG but it’s not really enough to be concerned about. The downside is a lower plant population than optimum due to mauling it in. The wheat we direct in January into undisturbed sprayed off 5 year ley looked shockingly bad until a month ago but now looks like a respectable crop seemingly having appeared from nowhere.

Crikey you’re very close; we are near Crowland (but not black land). We start drilling 1st week of October and managed to get all but one 50ac field (our biggest 🙄) in before it rained the first time last year; but then it dried briefly to get the last field done with the previous years not-drilled seed mid-November. Almost just to get rid of the seed. Didn’t go in well but is now the best looking wheat I have (for disease and grass weeds) KWS kerrin so tends to be quite rusty; teb adexar, adexar and teb for T0-3. The earlier stuff is clean but the last drilled is spotless. I assume holbeach area you have tates to lift and can’t drill later?

Disease levels have exploded on the trials I have seen and here in the SW. Septoria at very high pressure even robust programmes are creaking.
Here is a photo from some trials I visited in Somerset on Monday to give you an idea. This is of Kinetic that has been untreated.
I have visited trials at Kingsbridge, Sutton Scotney and Somerset over last two weeks, all have demonstrated very high Septoria levels. This WAS NOT a season to cut back on rates or applications in this part of the country, but then it never is 😉

Last of the T3 went on my spring wheat yesterday. Early flowering, though it’s variable. It really isn’t wheat flowering weather. It needs to be sunny and dry. Losing potential. Last thing the barley needs is thunderstorm. The electricity pole inspection helicopter did his best to flatten it but it stayed up. Swished it around like Claudia Winkelmans hair.
