T670i engine trouble

IMG_20200901_161024.jpg

Got a call on Saturday to check out this combine. Fitters had put a head gasket on it. It did a day then the oil light came on and there was no oil pressure. John deere tech had looked at it and told the guy it was a problem with the head gasket and an o ring wasn't put in correctly on the head. I'd never heard of a head needing an o ring so I took it on and removed the head just to be sure. No o ring there. We removed the engine took off the sump and found the culprit to be an o ring on the filter supply tube that had blown out. A little cheaper fix that a replacement oil pump got her turned round in twelve hours.

Why didn't the original fitter that had replaced head gasket not sort it out?

If they hadn't done it properly first time.
Was told it did a week's work then lost oil pressure don't know why last fitter didn't do it I don't think it was related to the o ring in the sump as it originally had water in oil

It escaped the low oil pressure without collateral damage to bearings etc. Very lucky in my opinion.
Deere engines do have far more issues than the industry average by the look of it and the number of posts about different serious issues, including the ongoing saga of head gasket failures.

Totally agree however didn't totally escape his turbo is shot but could of been far worse. When John Deere go wrong they go properly wrong and usually very expensive to fix

Wel the mothership ships all parts overnight and I dont think the op had a head gasket or sump gasket up his sleeve or sat on his mantle piece!!!! The problem with repairing other peoples tackle is maintaining your reputation, you won’t be thanked for saving a £100 but every man and his dog will get to know if the dam thing starts knocking or seizes ten years and three owners later....
