T7 50K bearing.

Hi.
Does anyone have a picture of the notorious 50K bearing location.
I take it as hitch dropped and back plate off, where exactly to go then?

My understanding is that it’s the pinion shaft bearing as the pinion is direct drive from flywheel in 19th gear. If it’s pinion bearing it’s the first bearing and shaft to go into the backend of any tractor so will be the last one to take out. Any other pinions I’ve been involved with is split back end, top cover off, both trumpets off, diff out and then the pinion. It’s then a process of measuring and setting and pre loading the pinion before re setting and shimming up the diff. One of the very few jobs that you will have to use algebra to repair a tractor. Workshop manuals will quote roughly 40 ish hrs for such a job. No doubt the blue boys have done so much by now they will have it down to about the same time as green men swap head gaskets.........

It's not the pinion bearing as far as I'm aware, I was told its the bearing at the back of the gearbox directly above the pinion bearing. This holds the PTO shaft and 50k clutch pack, fairly easy access through the back with the pto cover off, I would like to know once and for all if it is this bearing that's the weak link.

Makes a lot if sense and looking at diagram aswell. I was wondering how a tappered roller on pinion could fail but did wonder if there was a bearing in front that supported the pack. From what I’ve heard the bearing can chew up the rear axle housing. If it’s the bearing in your diagram would you need R/H trumpet off and remove diff for access

100% sure it can be accessed via just taking the back plate off. Just not sure which bearing to replace.
Will take the plate off in the morning.

Yes that is correctly marking the bearing which fails.

it can be accessed through the rear by removing the PTO housing.

the issue is the cage holding the balls in the bearing breaks up, then instead of the balls being evenly spaced supporting the shaft, they all then sit together in the bottom of the race and as there is no support around the top of the shaft, the manifold hub wears into the main diff housing and causes loss of pressure to clutch = massive problem and big ££.

shite bearings and a problem on all T7

I believe as jato has said this is potentially all tractors, google new Holland bearing failure or gearbox and loads of threads on this forum come up some really good ones with rebuild pics too.

Its a problem. Not expensive if its done before it fails but if driven til it fails it can be very expensive so get it done

We lost pto pressure in ours couple of years ago. Main dealer repaired it. Apparently it was a failed bearing. Can't remember the bill. Couple of thousand I think. Dont think it was as expensive as i first feared.
Wonder if it's the same bearing?
