Tack Sheep

Hi All,

I'm now taking orders for tack sheep for this winter.

75p per head per week, grazed on hay and silage aftermaths, roots and permanent pasture. From 01 October to 31 March. The client is responsible for haulage at the start and end of the contract.

All shepherding is provided, including a drench/vaccination if required. The client pays for the drugs. The client remains responsible for fallen stock disposal and insurance against theft. I have my own wandering stock insurance. I can also arrange scanning at the tack location, although the client will be liable for the cost.

A deposit will be required to secure grazing, with a further payment due when the sheep arrive, and the balance once they depart.

References available on request.

If you have any questions, or to discuss further, please call me 07842 071126.

Thanks.

Alex

Charge as much as you can get,..........upto£1 week...somebod will pay, they wont make any money (n) but they will pay.(y)

No thanks. 75p gives a margin for me and the landowner without breaking the sheep owner. I want to build a sustainable business based on repeat custom. Last year's clients have already been in touch to increase stock numbers for this winter.

Yes I agree totally everybody needs to make a bit to keep us all going, you can get a good name if you send em home fighting fit.Dont take this the wrong way but be careful of SCAB arriving with the sheep especially if youve got your own sheep.Good post thou, sets everything out clearly from the start:)

Breeding ewes, ewelambs or store lambs are you catering for ?

I can take all kinds.

Last year I had welsh mountain ewe lambs which did very well (that client has doubled numbers for this year, I now get all his ewe lambs).

I also had breeding shedding ewes which scanned at 170% for an outdoor lambing system.

I've not yet got the experience to draw fat lambs from a flock of stores but I'm getting plenty of practise over the summer with @CopperBeech

I've just taken on some new land. I have a space for 150 sheep.

I have another parcel for 500 sheep.

Both bits for 01 Oct - 31 Mar.

If interested please let me know.

As an update to the original advert, I can't get wandering stock insurance as I don't have a financial interest in the sheep. I have professional negligence and public liability insurance.

I was quite impressed with the driver's ability to reverse in off the main road.

The girls seemed to enjoy the ride and were reluctant to leave the wagon.

Straight into a stock fenced permanent pasture for a couple of days electric fence training and then out on to the IRG silage leys.

When do you move your tack sheep from grass on to turnips?

I've got the offer of some turnips November to March. But I'm hoping not to use them as they're some distance away and would require a subcontract shepherd.
I should be able to winter everything on perm pasture, hay/silage aftermaths and green covers.

I'm in talks with several arable farmers for stubble turnips next year. This should allow me to increase numbers substantially, as I'm currently limited by grazing in Feb/Mar. For next year, I'd look to move sheep into turnips at Christmas, to graze through to end of March.

Let me know @unlacedgecko when your expansion plans includes breaking into Wales.

Sounds like your doing well. All the best to you (y)

Thanks very much.

Unfortunately I'll never be able to expand into Wales due to demand for ground there. The rents expected would leave me with no margin.

If you want to send me some sheep, I have space for two blocks of 500. I've plenty of Welsh sheep on the books this year, with stock coming from Abergavenny, Aberystwyth and Merthyr Tydfil.
