Take home messages

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for everyone to use for the purpose of sharing knowledge. Where I work we are part of a training group where each member of staff on the cow side have 1 day a month where they go off farm to discuss a topic with the other members of the group. If everyone wanted to put a brief summary of what an open day they have been to was about and highlight one or two main take home messages it could become a good learning resource for everyone.

Our apprentice attended a meeting yesterday on the subject of red tractor and basic standards. The take home message from that meeting was ‘ everything you do, do it as if your on camera for the public. With phone cameras and drones about almost everything can be captured and made public without your knowledge sometimes.

Hope everyone can join in and share their take home messages

So once you've been milking for a decade are you going to start buying better cows?
Not a chance. I like the cows we work with. There is nowt wrong with them, but to run our job buying all fresh heifers for example would be very costly. Buying herd aged cows just needs a bit of caution that you don't end up with a mob of swingers
