Taking the brakes off single axle trailer?

Simple question- I've a small 7ft trailer that often isn't used, as we've got triaxle flatbed etc.

Consequently, the brakes are seized. A lot. Would it be permissable to whip them off, so long as the sub 750kg limit is observed?

Does it not depend on what it's plated to carry, rather than what you actually put on it?

I would of thought that if you just changed the hitch to a 750 kg fixed one, rather than an overrun one for brakes, and removed all brake cables rods etc, then that would be good to go,

Strictly speaking as a significant modification it ought to go through re-certification and down-plating... on the other hand...

If there's no plate to say otherwise it's 750kg max gross anyways regardless of how many axles brakes etc.

Not so because it could only be a 500kg trailer.

Can't be any more than 750kg without a plate though is the point I was making. You could take a brand new ifor twin axle trailer and without a plate it's 750kg max gross.
