Tank driving experiences

How do tank transmissions work without too much detail
It's obvious when a tank turns corners same as any tracked machine one track stops but if it needs to get out of trouble very quickly instead of track stopping can it be put in reverse and the opposite track forward?
CVRT is like a motorbike gearchange with your left foot, no clutch as such, but a centrifugal clutch like a chainsaw one.
Abbot 433 and 434 automatic, if you can use a knife and folk you can drive a Abbot, cvrt a little more difficult, I've had friends that just could not drive it.

How long do your vehicles last? I suppose if you're paying for it you're going to be more gentle than a 17 year old.

432 constantly breaks down, but they've had a hard life and there is very little sympathy in driving styles.

Strange how yesterday I was asking questions about tanks and last night I watched late night movie on ITV 4 called Fury , it was about liberation of
Europe, lots of action involving tanks

CVRT s take a lot of abuse, Jaguar XK car engine having to move 8 ton mass, spare engines are available, a rebuild one from mod is £1500 ish, I have 2 spare.
Rolls Royce k60 engines can take a lot of abuse, not from me tho, they should be good for 600 hrs if looked after, the thing is that to change the engine oil filters the engine has to come out so many in private hands don't get done.
The engine pack weighs about 2 tons, and can be taken out in about 2 hrs with care. These engines are more difficult to get hold of, lookily mine have done 78 hrs and the other one 300 hrs

That seems a basic design fault.
Not great if you are trying to reach Moscow

Happened to visit where the final crossroads scene was filmed a few months after and you wouldn’t know it was even there as it was built specifically for those scenes

That's a bugger that is, Warrior and Challenger both have remote filters so can be changed quite easily.

About 30 minutes to take a engine out of a Warrior with a good group of people.

432 is a bit of a nightmare to take the engine out and definately requires some patience and keen eyes. Not sure have different they are to the set up of the modern 432s.

You obviously know your tanks so you’ll know how maintenance heavy they are. I think the idea of paying for themselves a bit will be lost when the repair/servicing bills start racking up.

Anyone I know who has tried it has had a nasty experience of just how much they cost to run and maintain rather than just own for personal fun.

The smallest tank is a Alvis sabre, 1971 jaguar petrol engine, will travel at 50 mph at about 6 mpg.
The one in the middle is a Abbot 433 105mm spg, engine is a rolls Royce K60 multi fuel engine, 2 stroke, supercharged, opposed piston engine (12 pistons 6 combustion chambers) no cam shafts, valves or cylinder heads.
The one with no turret is a Fv 434 engineers vehicle, used for tank recovery in the field, also a crane so it can lift out and replace tank engines in the field. Same rolls Royce k60 engine.
The rolls Royce k60 engines do about 3 mpg
12 pistons and 6 combustion chambers?
Does it have 2 crankshafts?
How does lubrication system work?
Is the engine air intake inside the tank
compartment so that it can go through
water
