Tank slapped drilling on RTX?

Hi new to sat nav steering here, all is going pretty well other than an occasional wandering off line ending up in a wiggle unless I take over for a few metres

outfit is a 4m combi drill and front ring press with a New Holland T7 in the middle running factory fit system on RTX

I am assuming the front press occasionally grabs and pull everything off line and the system can’t react fast enough?

Any settings I could alter to improve things?

cheers

When I ran RTX I used to run the lift arm stabalisers a bit slack. Then when it did wobble it never swung the drill as much. 3m mounted p/h drill.

Ah that’s a good idea👍

this is a 4m on a tractor that most folks would think was a touch on the small side nowadays and is a bit lacking in the tyre dept currently so probably getting pulled about a bit.

I would expect a tank slapping action to be from the steering response being set too aggressive.

I'm not familiar with that system, but there are usually quite a few other settings, which are not normally adjusted once set the first time, that can be tweaked to help in situations where just altering the aggressiveness isn't enough.

The wiggles are more to do with the settings of the steer system, the accuracy (RTX could mean either Centrepoint RTX which is 2-3m accuracy or Rangepoint RTK at 10-15cm) only dictates the pass to pass, so how accurate it is when you turn around and come back down the mark, whereas the straightness is all down to the set up of the system, a line can be as straight on SBAS as it can be on RTK.

If the system is on a powered steering wheel then front presses can make them very hard to set up as generally (but not always) there is no wheel angle sensor for the system to see what the straight-ahead position is.

If it is on a steer ready tractor then it will be using the wheel angle sensors on the tractor, the values for this straight ahead postion may need calibrating to make sure that the position it thinks it straight ahead is actually straight ahead, the tell tale for this issue is if it is always steering one way then back again to create the wiggle. If it is wiggling from side to side both ways then it could either be agressiveness settings, or a faulty wheel angle sensor, for slower work you usually increase the agressiveness, for faster work you need it lower, there arent really any definite figures for these as every tractor and implement are different

As has been said. Signal will make zero affect on “tank slapper” . I’d say it’s your front press. So to eliminate. Take front press off, it’s it fine? If so out front press back on but lock steering. . Can you manually drive at dead straight with less than +\- 2cm with front press as you describe? If no, then it’s front press

I can't help with any NH settings but front press shouldn't bother auto steer.

It certainly doesn't affect the JD system anyway
Yes it will if it’s taking weight off steering tires and you are trying to use same settings! All these things need tuning out !

Tyres need grip, if they no grip they can’t steer. If they have too much grip they steer too much. All this needs tuning
Hmm tyres are too narrow and about buggered, I know it won’t be helping and is something I’m looking into going forwards.
may even have a change of drill and ditch the front press which I think is the root cause of the issue.

Dual it .

We usually drill with duals but have a demo on it today and it's more than acceptable but not as good as tractor on duals for being straight
