Tanker Rain Gun Pump Seal Rings

Is there an alternative way of sealing than using these wax type rings?

Constantly having to tighten the bolts after a few load to stop a flood of slurry blowing out on the ground. How many rings does it actually hold and what’s everyone else’s protocol as to when/how to fix it?

Just after putting my last and only ring into it as I have pipe work tomorrow on the side of the road but I doubt that will totally seal it.

Dig all the old ones out first before putting new in. It’s a pain I know. Long reach picks and some home made hooks with sharp points are the tools for the job. There is a special corkscrew type tool also but I always got on better with picks.

When installing new ones alternate where the join is. I used to start with first one at 12 o’clock. Then the next at 6. And so on. Clamp up the clamp ring after each one ideally.

I’ve fitted hundereds in irrigation pumps they are generally quite good, you want a drip per second on a good pump running 10 bar to keep them cool or they will burn out in no time.

Im guessing there is some kind of shaft bearing, are they ok? That will soon destroy the seals and make it leak if they are gone.

I put a set of seals into one recently, was given 6 rings but 5 was all I was ever getting into it. Maybe if I'd given each one a squeeze with the clamp I'd have gotten the 6 in

5? There must be more room in yours than mine. I think 3 was the most I got into it. 🤔

How tight do you screw them in when new?

I would say there's the remains of a few rings compacted into the back of the housing that isn't letting you fit more than 3 in. I had mine stripped to put bearings in and had to chisel out the last ring or 2. They were solid

I try to take them out but all I can get out is two. Awkward as hell and you could spend ages at it.

Wonder what the advantage is of a standard seal.
