TB frustrations.

What I don’t understand is tb reactors are usually fit and healthy and the meat still goes in the food chain so I can’t see what all this testing is all about
They look fit and healthy on the outside- we had 2 good cows go as reactors and both had lesions. One had just weighed in at nearly a tonne, pretty fat, just had a calf and had no previous ailments. She had lesions in her chest.

there are more and more black and white furry things about here, but all our immediate neighbours are clear so I do have my doubts about them. but I've seen 5 or 6 dead on the road near here in the last year, prior to that I've never seen one, just chance? I don't know....
The dead ones on the road no longer present a disease risk but they do indicate a significant local over population. Haven’t see any roadkill here for months but we have the benefit of the first year of the cull which was very successful in terms of numbers.

A thought for the assembled panel:

if on finding lesions, which could be caused by a number of things, APHA disregard a clear test 5 days previously, and 6 other tests in the year, does that mean they have no confidence in the ability of the skin and gamma tests to find disease?

Cow proved innocent according to all procedures, and is now guilty until proven innocent?

I thought Scotland was supposed to be TB free.

Worrying that they can’t tell you where it’s coming from. Are there not different strains that are prevalent in different parts of the country?

officially it is, but there's still a low number going on, 22herds last year according to Google.

the first ones that were cultured and analysed were a strain that's been seen in South west Scotland once and once on the east coast in recent years. that's all we've been told. id have thought it would be possible via BCMS or other records to find out if any of our Cattle have had contact with any others that were infected.
this cows sample has been sent for this "DNA profiling" so I'm told.
