Tb test - Avian Lumps

Had my first IR today with my Tb test after 4 years clear.

Vet was saying I’ve got a lot of cows with significant lumps from the avian jab. He said that could indicate there is a good chance there’s a strong background level of infection??

More likely you ve had starlings crapping on feed or in the water. We got shut down once so put a bunch of 20 store bullocks on an adlib hopper to get them gone fat. Next test 17 of them had avian lumps

My cattle never come inside and only get grass over summer and spend winter out on turnips/kale plus haylage.

No trough feeding.

One thing I know for sure is no matter what the f**k that IR is getting killed and get it off farm ASAP I was shut down over an IR when they cut it open no lesions and nothing in the blood. Cost me a fortune and wished I’d just killed it

Dispose of an IR before it is resolved and you will have to have a whole herd test.
They may even retest under severe interpretation.

I have on IR on farm atm. I have asked the question.

Why was your IR cut open?

Always get a few Avian lumps here. Never too worried tbh.

I think that's changed now
I've done that before nothing got a second chance here
But I think if its dead its a automatic fail
Don't know what happens if natural causes

A few years ago had a whole herd tb test and all the cows had avian lumps like gobstoppers. Vet just looked at cattle milling around in loose pen and said they're all fine.
Never had that before or since but have often wondered what would cause such a reaction in all the cows...not their calves.

We used to get loads of avian lumps when we were farming on the coast. Seagulls, pheasants etc. Nothing at all to worry about.
How significant was your IR? Did the vet measure it accuratley. They will sometimes measure differently depending how they stand or how their neck is bent. I would always ask for a second reading on test day at the end of the test. In your case that time has now passed. 1 mm either way can make a huge difference to the outcome. Just be careful because in my experience IRs can rumble on, she may well be an IR in 60 days. Sorry.
If she goes clear get rid, she will keep causing you grief. Only my opinion from past experience.

Sorry to hear that.
Be ready to decide whether you wish to pay to have it blood tested or accept it being a permanent I.R and restricted to your holding for life until slaughter.
I wouldn't worry about the avian lumps. It could mean that your herd is a little more naïve to infection having been clear for a few years.
I wonder if you have wormed or vaccinated them recently?. . . . I'd heard that that can't make them more likely to react to a skin test.
