Tb vaccine for cattle on the way?

I think that was only with a vaccine that gave the same result as infection. This is a DIVA vaccine where you get a different TB test result if the animal is vaccinated rather than infected.
I'll stand corrected as I have read a bit more. The vaccine is the standard BCG vaccine, which is what is used on humans and badgers. What is new is the test - it is a different test that can tell the difference bewtween infected/vacinated, so strictly speaking it's not a new cattle vaccine but a new cattle skin test. Bad reporting!

PCR I think.
Will also be used instead of culture for samples from reactors and S/H cases. Quicker and a definite yes or no for tb.
Only issue left is it confuses APHAs computer system!

So basically a waste of time then, mother worked in NHS and worked in high risk areas of TB for humans, she use to have a BCG every 4 year's and the last 10 years she stopped having it as it wasn't that effective any more, so it sure ain't going to help BTB control.[/QUOTE]

The evidence suggests it does have protective effects and can help BTB control, as long as we can differentiate infection and vaccination. Sure it's not 100% effective, but any ability to reduce the number of animals that can become infected results in fewer animals that can then go on to spread it and so forth.
