Does anyone no-till vining peas???

A vining group grower round here (East Yorkshire) tried it but the vining group gave him a different contract basically saying he was on his own regarding pool results, so if it was a crap crop he got crap money, whereas usually the money is shared between pool growers whether they got a good yield or not.
He now grows combining peas, compaction from the viners and not being CTF were his main issues though.

We grow Daytona peas here. All conventional though and have no experience with no till. Re advice it’s pretty much what has been said already; reduce compaction and cut them the day before they’re ready. We always prioritise them before wheat if I think they’ll go and hope for sun. It’s amazing how they’ll stop feeding when a cloud comes over. I aim for 65-70 seeds with Daytona but would alter depending on variety/type. Variable costs vary here depending on weather. Our lowest spend actually produced the biggest crop

Peas this year was far more better than beans. 100 plants on m2, drilled directly after rye, 200kg npk 10-26-26 in slot with sumo dts. After that 0.5 l mcpa. Thats all. Wery cheap to grow and perfect crop before WW.

Very nice. Yield? I don’t think mcpa is permitted here but mcpb used to be (Maybe still is)

Ass in shed still stays full truck with them for seeds, something aprox 3.xxx t/ha for this extremly dry summer it is (y) the best moment was that here was a lot of pods after flowering not like neighbours beens, Wich all drop down without making pods.

Mcpa here is also not legel in Peas. But it works well and is wery cheap. :D

Had Zero4 here at harvest poor too dry & had sum compaction issues that i thought were ok. 0.884t/ac
Never again, switched to prophet for this spring neighbour gets on better with them.
Had daytona in 2015 did 2.2t/ac unreal, half the yield from seed kept in 2016
It was the land n weather tho not the seed.
Have a much better field winter ploughed since mid sept for the spring job tho

I actually fancy trying peas with my weaving gd drill, the beans are definitely growing without any issues apart from a plague of rooks.

How are everyone’s peas looking this year? Mine seem to be flowering quite heavily so far; even the 2ha where I messed up drilling. (Calibration didn’t save when I started so peas on at triple rate. They seem to look well!)

Avoid any compaction whatsoever.
Drill when conditions are right, not by the calendar.
Shoot any pigeons.
Pray for some rain soon after drilling and then a lot when they flower.
And for sunshine thereafter and especially when you combine them.
and pray that because I decided to grow them for the first time in 30 years, no-one else had the same idea. seen so many fields of peas this year its unbelievable.
