What model, I used an 8080 for years putting out 500 bales of silage a year, had a new one on demo and it was ok but then tried a Lucas and was miles better, serrated knives for a start and hydraulic comb. Wouldn’t be afraid of another teagle if they had these options but they don’t at the moment and non serrated knives soon lose their edge in silage.

Haylage through a 4040 will be slow, and hard on the knifes. wetter silage is easier chopped. I would get a demo with your own bales to make sure You are happy.

Had a 4040 for a few years, put a ram on the spout which helped with bedding, we only really used it for bedding but put the odd silage bale through it, it didn't like heavy bales of silage & would slip the belts & not turn the barrel, grand with nice dry stuff, also straw had to be loaded the correct way as to "tighten" the bale as it rotated, put in the wrong way & it unwound then stuck in the barrel, in short it was just ok.

Have a McHale now & it's in a different league, still only using it for straw but can be run at lower revs so as not chopping the straw that much, 4040 was flat out on 1000 shaft to get the throw & put straw into dust.

Not saying McHale is better that the rest as I'm sure the rest of that type are just as good, totally different machine to a barrel type, but with a price to match.
