Yeah sorry should of posted, they 2 weeks ago put a new gear box on it and another shaft this one is diffrent to the last looks a bit better made, the shaft that is. have tried it since and still gets a bit warm but not as hot as before. Tried it in some reed since and it went on ok, so fingers crossed I think it might be sorted.

They were going to take old box apart and see what they could come up with, haven't heard back on that yet, but points towards a faulty box.
Everything is topped though now for this year so can't give it much more testing till next year now

We also have a Teagle Topper - model TBM 250, it is a re-badged Betis machine, I think. We bought it new last year, it has since done 4 or 5 PTO shafts in maybe 50 acres topping. Sheared the end right off one, ripped the yokes apart on the others. Fair gives you a fright when they go.
Teagle eventually paid for one, said it must have been a faulty shaft but that's rubbish. It did that one shortly afterwards, so they sent a chap out and he took the machine to bits and checked it all over carefully, said it is all fine, so we lent it to a neighbour. He got 150m around his headland topping thistles and docks, it spread the yokes on the pto shaft. Being embarrassed, thinking it was him, he replaced the shaft but when we found that out we got Teagle back out and they have now taken it away to investigate. That was about 4 months ago, heard nothing from them ever since!
Got it on my list to phone them and ask for a replacement machine or our money back. There's something massively wrong - to shear several pto shafts, that takes some force. We're worried it is going to bugger the tractor gear box.
And yes the gear box on our topper gets bloody hot, even just topping grass in the orchard.
Anyone else got this problem?

Triangular shaft, not sure on bearing caps, 130hp tractor. The pto angles are shallow. We've been doing nothing obviously wrong in the set up, we do use the full offset to get under trees when topping in the orchard, but that's why we bought the machine.

I have got a new Teagle dual 280 no more than 5 hours cutting time on grass. The gearbox gets very hot, it had too much oil in the gearbox after delivery and Leaked around the shaft spline. The dealer has drained some, checked the breathers and said to keep an eye on it, they have told teagle about the problem.

Just wondering if all the gear boxes run hot on these?
