Hi there just wondering do use run your ewes with the teaser in good lush grass ( flushing ) for the 2 weeks or keep them in poorer grass when teasing.

They'd be better on good grass, assuming you want to maximise your scan.Hi there just wondering do use run your ewes with the teaser in good lush grass ( flushing ) for the 2 weeks or keep them in poorer grass when teasing.
Not to hijack the thread, but how long after being vasectomised can you use a teaser?
Was at a vet fertility meeting this week. They can still be fertile for 4 weeks after the opp, so recommend at least 6 weeks. Not to hijack the thread, but how long after being vasectomised can you use a teaser?

Other major point that was new to me was ewes should be ideally a mile away from the nearest ram to maximise teaser effect. Weather lambs can also decrease efficiency.
Yes mine summer in a paddock free of charge to keep it tidy at a castle 3/4 mile up the road. But it’s probably only 1/4 of a mile as the crow flies.Yes, out of sight, smell and sound of any rams. Not easily achieved in most sheep producing areas of the UK.
What we have done for the first time this year with the sponged ewes, was when sponged with put in a teaser ram for the 14 days and will then tip the ewes and hope full will bring more ewes into heat and get more to hold to first serve.
Anybody try anything like this in the past.
@neilo and others, this is a concern of mine too. We used a teaser for the first time last year, with some success. Do we really need to have him tested this year, do you test yours?Would it be worthwhile semen testing him before you let him go,I have heard a lot of horror stories about teasers.
Surely it's only necessary (if at all) the first year?@neilo and others, this is a concern of mine too. We used a teaser for the first time last year, with some success. Do we really need to have him tested this year, do you test yours?
That's my hope! But you hear tell of blokes who've been cut and still done the business!Surely it's only necessary (if at all) the first year?

That's my thinking - the human examples are 'hearsay'...I’ve never tested a teaser in my life, just give them plenty of time between op & use. If you are taking a chance on that time, let him loose with a few cull ewes to empty his system to make sure perhaps.
If the tubes have been cut properly, which isn’t a difficult op, then sperm can’t get from the testicles to the point where it can do damage.
Hmmmmm, any DNA testing of the child done? i’ve Heard the op can cause brown babies on occasion too......
