Teaser ram

I've just bought a couple of MatingMark No-mate harnesses, having seen them mentioned in another thread on here.

That's an example, I got mine from a local supplier though. Had to buy a "normal" harness too as I don't use them and none of the old ones I have are the right kind to be compatible. Worked out about £100 a time so less than an actual teaser as long as they last long enough if looked after properly.

Meaning to kick a couple of "spare" tups out tomorrow wearing them so will try and get a photo. Should mean a few less sheep to feed through the winter at the very least.

The problem I can see is their urine rotting their belly’s? Flies? What if it slips off etc?
Time will tell. Cold enough here now that flies shouldn't be an issue. Using two homebred shearlings that didn't grow on as well as I'd hoped so will probably go fat afterwards anyway. As for slipping off I'm running these two nearest the house just in case but they seem very secure.

Only thing to add for anyone else trying them is that they'll fit with any harness as they just fix around the straps. I naively thought the Mating Mark harness may have had extra fixing points or could have saved a few quid.

After just under two weeks with the crossing ewes, and a week or so back in the tups field, these two (and two actual teasers) went out with some of the hill ewes today. Left the harnesses on right through and although I didn't turn them up to look there certainly isn't any noticeable smell from the boys so hopefully not doing any harm at all. I'll try and remember to take photos of their bellies when the harnesses come off in a fortnight.

Pulled the teasers off today (© @Nithsdale Farmer ), and stuck the tups out.

The two harnessed boys seem relatively unharmed, straps have rubbed the hair and/or wool off their back legs but not raw and their bellies are urine stained but their pizzles seem clean enough.

Would have taken photos but having dislocated my pinkie catching an actual teaser earlier in the day, it wasn't too high on my list of priorities.

Oh ya fecker, can you get your pinkie back in , or was it a trip to the doctor?
Don’t tell @Nithsdale Farmer you injured yourself pulling off your teasers , he’ll get all smug , and tell you you’re doing it wrong !🥴😂

Got it back in myself. You don't realise how much you use it until you try to drive the quad home. Must have popped out at least 7 or 8 times altogether. Fortunately, my wife used to be an orthopaedic nurse so she strapped it. Apparently it will need to be strapped for a while.
