Absolutely, helps to bring them into season before sponging.
Sponging won't work if ewes not cycling.

Sponges work fine in non-cycling ewes, that's why we use them for lambing out of season. If they are cycling (which a teaser 'may' do), you would get a higher conception rate and, potentially, a higher scanning %age, but most will still cycle after a sponge as long as you don't go silly early for the ewe breed.

Would a teaser ram be of any benefit, when sponging ewes?

If you're AI'ing, use of a teaser after sponge removal will tighten synchrony a bit more, improving conception rates slightly. I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference if natural mating.
