Tedders

I have to admit, its probably 15 years since I read the instruction book, the tine holder centre bush has 3 angle settings, thought it was to adjust well used tines . Did you advance ,or retard the tip of the tine to improve the tedding? Thanks Forever Fent, we learn alot on this forum.
I usually make haylage and the leaving it in rows does not matter to much,However i made an extra 40 acres of hay last year and it would not spread it out fully so i adjusted two rotors first and gave it a try ,the difference was unbelievable considering the end of the tine had only moved a few mm,Its not a big job with a nut gun and will transform the machine, sorry i dont know which way they were adjusted, maybe 2 oneway and 2 the other to decide whats best then do them all to suit

We bought a 7.9 metre Krone with 8 small rotors,5 tine arms last year to replace a lely 770 6rotor.
Lely turned grass well but it seemed to go everywhere always some landing in next rows and after a few passes headlands and some rows would have much more grass than others.

The smaller rotor krone turns just as well but seems to put the grass back where it came from and grass stays even all over the field.
The border system is better on this size krone too.

Absolutely the operator matching forward speed to PTO speed can make a huge difference no way need anywhere near 540 needed first turn first turn the most important in my mind machine needs time to work can still do 12 acre an hour with my 770 without going too fast

The only problem is where do you buy a new lely from now since agco took them over, agco seem to be pushing the fella brand Tedders and rakes and there's no sign of the lely type, think they only bought them for the foragers and balers.

Not sure what AGCO are doing but we’ve just brought a new 1020 from our usual Lely dealer.

Just bought a 7.82 krone and we mow with a 2.8m mower with no conditioner but swath wheels on it.....is it possible it might over lap onto a 4th swath has people seem happy on here for 3 x10ft rows?

Does it matter if it overlaps? A properly set up tedder will leave a nice even matt all over the field.
On the 2/3/4 pass it needs to pick all this grass up and spread it properly otherwise it’s not worth buying.

Lely here but with agco dropping them for the fella it'll be a pottinger next. Really like the hedge side system on them. Look well built and their curved arm is meant to give the same effect as the hook tine but with less contact with the ground.

the older pottinger tedders are crap haven't seen the newer ones? just my opinion.

I also find you have to lift every blade of grass on the 1st pass, anything that misses on 1st pass is very hard to lift afterwards.

I think for a true 9m machine you will end up 8 rotor, a 6 will get most of the grass but doesn't spread it to a full 9m (probably why they are sold as 7.6m?)

Class 770 ( or now badged as an 800) is by far the best tedder for the job if it is mainly silage work, but if a lot of hay making then maybe go for the lely, as find the class won't shift every bit of grass on second pass

Lely 770 is good, only needs between 400 and about 460 PTO revs maximum to do a wonderful job.
Other brands of course may be equally as good but my only experience is with the Lely. It would be a shame if AGCO are intent on dropping the Lely tedders as they have to be one of the best machines on the market.

Surely someone will buy the Lely design? Maybe Tulip who bought the centreliner and roterra designs.....

AGCO have brought the design. Lely tedders have a much better name than Fella so I suspect the Fella design will be replaced by the Lely design, it will just be made in Nuremberg and painted MF or Fendt colours.

Pure speculation! Outside of UK/Eire and Holland of course, “the” Lely Tedder isn’t the holy grail many think it is here. I’m not knocking it; far from it, but to put things in a wider perspective it’s viewed differently elsewhere. I expect they will get hooked times on a Fella derivative; whether that works, time will tell!

I may be wrong but the patent lely had on the hook tine was for their connection and number of springs on it. That patent has been removed now so technically everyone could run the lely tine. Yet there has not been a mass move to it.
