Pure speculation! Outside of UK/Eire and Holland of course, “the” Lely Tedder isn’t the holy grail many think it is here. I’m not knocking it; far from it, but to put things in a wider perspective it’s viewed differently elsewhere. I expect they will get hooked times on a Fella derivative; whether that works, time will tell!

The main product missing from Agcos portfolio in Europe is the round baler and the forage wagon. It’s fair to say this is the reason they brought Lely forage. If they don’t make use of all the other products they brought as part of the package it makes them very expensive designs.

Agreed, but their is no logic in having two totally different products in the same group. This would lead to confusion and also duplicated parts lines. Maybe wrong but the lure of a good range of round balers and loader wagons is very valuable. Having sold the Welger baler when I worked in WestMac years ago, the turnover of balers and baler parts is way out ahead of mowers or tedders.

Mchale have taken a massive share of Welger's customers in recent times though.

I would say that was a fair comment, but not just Welger alone. However, with Agco’s strong distribution, they have the channels to improve market penetration significantly I’d of thought. Problem comes if the Agco dealer is already selling McHale.

Thanks for the replies,

For a 8 meter machine would you better having a 6 or 8 rotar? Mainly silage and a little bit of hay/haylage on fairly level ground

8 rotor cause the rotors will be smaller diameter so pick up the crop better, when you go 8m on a 6 star the rotors will be bigger and tend to miss bits on the ground.

Some Agco dealers are selling McHale, can think of a couple here in the south west, bound to cause much more franchise merry go round. Many people thinking Agco buying Lely is not particularly helpful.

There is constant change due to acquisitions and mergers. No point in thinking that a change is unhelpful, after all for sale to take place requires a willing buyer AND seller! It’s the way of rhe world. Still it provides brands like i work with an opportunity to replace a specialist with another so to speak!

I realise that,i am thinking of a very good dealer close to me that has sold a large amount of Lely kit in the last ten years now finding themselves out in the cold. Now they will have to try and persuade those customers that Vicon kit is better than their Lely stuff, hard work .

To whom do you refer? I only know of 1 Lely dealer in North Devon and can’t see how they’d get Vicon??
