I’m going tedding today for a friend, the last day on Tuesday I did it the Tedder kept jamming and putting slip clutch part into gear. Did it first time and was ok and second time it just twisted the pto shaft and broke it off at the clutch part on shaft. It’s a 4 rotor pottinger one but not sure on the model. Just wondering when I come to end off the row is it safe to lift it up high enough to clear the alresdt tedded grass and not be the cause off the issues ? It’s how I was shown years back on the same machine but Iv got it in my head it’s my fault it broke even tho did all j was told. Slower gear than used to use cause off it and only lift at end when machines straight. Thread more just to help settle my already high nerves befofe I go
Thank you

Must be something jamming in the gearing of the tedder to do that.Take the shaft off and spin the rotors by hand to see they are spinning freely, nothing to do with what you did.

All was running free. I tedded 15 acres befofe hand. Jammed in grass once and I turned off straight away backed back and grass was clear so started and all was fine. Then drove 100 yard and all just stopped. So then when we took covers off shaft had twisted and broke. I’m just over thinking about lifting at the ends. I have to lift it up to clear grass and it’s small tractor so it’s nearly up full height

Usually can hear with a pto if your putting it under too much pressure by lifting to high /turning to tight and by increased vibration. Open the back window and turn the radio down!🤣 Crops are big this year so speed will need to be reduced on mowing/turning/raking imo

Transport locks and all off and set how have been all along and not had issue before. Done one fiekd this morning and no issue. He changed the shaft to a shear bolt one for time being. I don’t have radio on when doing it as like hear what happening when not my machines

Check the gear box, oil goes to black tar and don,t lubricate, gears will eventually fail and jam like yours.

Check all the gearbox bolts are intact too. I had one underneath shear off ( previous owner  ), that allowed the casing to split slightly, and loose all the gearbox oil. Spotted the problem before any harm done ( I hope ).

The boss man checked all round and couldn’t see issue. Changes shaft and didn’t do it the whole time so thinks it’s the slip clutch thing on the shaft that’s at fault
