Telehandler height restrictor/lock out

Thinking about it, perhaps the way to meet your criteria is something like a series of laser beams across the top of the concrete panels. A small reciever on the top of the boom knuckle. When it breaks through a laser beam it powers a relay that disables the boom lift / tele out solenoids.

that is the kind of thing I was thinking andrew. Whether it can be done or someone willing to trial it?

Could be done using photocells the same as used on automated gates and doors, would need a remote control triggered by the beam being broken.

Sounds like it will have to ‘fail safe’ to a limited state but should be doable. Not sure who to suggest though.

Yes, but there’s no failsafe. If the laser was not working or obstructed the boom wouldn’t have any limit.

A lad I know left the boom up on a grab wagon in a quarry, forgot about it and hit a conveyor ?ended up with the conveyor wedged on the cab.??

Just a thought but could you use a geo fence arrangement similar to a tracker? Inside a specific area turns on lift limiter, outside area allows loader to lift to required height. If you enter restricted area with boom up system sounds alarm or pulls power from transmission/shuttle to stop movement until boom is lowered. Just a thought.

Whould a proximity sensor mounted on the boom of the machine suffice that when in overhead environments you could not get close to giving problems namely overhead obstacles
Once outside no overhead obstacles so no restriction on lift height

You are going to a lot of trouble to prevent it hitting something above.but what about hitting something like the door or side of the shed.my point is why not train the driver to not run in to anything

i was working on 2 machines, hopping between the 2. one i had taken the boom off for repair, the other was up in the air. You can guess which one i drove out of the shed with not looking :X3:

Just get a handler with a shorter boom? How about a nice 1990s tractor and quicke loader - sure you could get something for £15k that would do the job.
I'm guessing this is in an industrial environment, readymix yard or such?

Training the driver umm... you haven’t had an incident where you tell the driver “whatever you do don’t hit the roof” then 5 minutes later he’s hit the roof! ????

I know what you mean but my point is going to a lot of effort to protect something above but not things to the side when presumably whatever is above is held up by something on the ground .so should also be protected

And no I’ve never hit the roof yet .my nephew did manage to get a extra layer of round bales in the barn a few years back.and was very proud of his achievements.it was only next day when we could see daylight through the roof sheets we realised how he had managed it:LOL:

Just had a thought we have a weigh log on our teleported.it has a magnet on the side of the boom and a switch on a bracket off the side of the cab.it bleeps when at the correct height so you always get a even weigh.you could rig one up at the height you wanted to give a warning buzzer.also if you have a electronic joystick it’s power supply could be routed through a relay to stop it lifting any further.you could incorparate a override switch for when working outside
