Telehandler pick up hitches

We replaced a jd 6150 and loader with a Kramer Kt407. Really pleased with the choice apart from one point. Backed a 14t trailer under the drier, filled it from the drier and then found I couldn’t drop the trailer off as the hitch wouldn’t lift to unlatch the hook. Looking at the machine it shows a hitch lift capacity of 1000kg, the towing capacity is 20tonnes. I didn’t buy the machine to tow trailers, however I would expect to be able to move trailers around the yard etc. What are others experiences of telehandler pickup hitch capacities.

Most are rated with 1500kg lift on hitch.
Some are limited cause they have to allow for just pallet forks on front and no weight over from wheels.

I regularly move trailers and spreaders around the yard with my JCB tm, haven’t found much it won’t lift or unlatch yet, but I wouldn’t even try a 14T trailer full on the back of mine, heavy stuff like that doesn’t feel kind to the rear axle in my opinion.

Front and rear axles appear the same and bearing in mind the front axle is good for considerably more than 4t I dont think axle loadings would be a problem. Thanks Acengineering useful to know other machines generally rated at around 1500kg

You can't expect a handler pick up hitch to match a tractor. Look at the lift rams on a tractor which are designed to pick up weight at the end of the arms. A lot of trailers have a lot higher hitch load than you'd think as well.

Our manitou will lift a 14t Bailey trailer if reasonable full like from the combine with a few revs but I wouldn’t want to do it too much. 11 ton Griffiths it does with ease

Jcb would be the same it's not the first time I've had similar issues but as stated earlier I've heard there's ways to get some weight off to unlock it
