Telehandler tax class

Hi folks, I've been doing some paperwork, and I've noticed that our telehandler's tax class is 'Works Truck'. Is this correct? Should it be agricultural machine like the rest of the tractors? It is purely used for farm work, if that makes a difference.

A telehandler used exclusively on farm should have been registered as an Ag Machine and taxed at nil rate.

Works Truck tax class will be £165 pa to tax if you go on road. I suppose it depends on how it was first registered by the original selling dealer. Should be able to get the tax class changed with DVLA. Otherwise if it doesn’t go on the road, set it as SORN then you don’t need to tax it.

Yes "Works Truck" was the classification for many years for machines working in the industrial/ construction market with the taxation class being changed to "Special Vehicle" Body Type "Lift Truck" some years ago - so just fill in Section 7 entering Agric Machine and send to DVLA with covering letter explaining it is used on Agricultural Work Only now.
