Telehandler tilt

Hi all. Does anyone have any experience of telehandlers with the ability disable the tilt/tip function? Mate has just bought a manbasket and he's been told that it's only legal if the "tilt mechanism is disabled"? Kind of makes sense but I don't think I've seen an agri telehandler with such a thing.

Yes we have it on our JCB 541-70, its just a button you press and it disables the crowd function on the joystick

Think there was a pin you inserted near the joystick to disable it on earlier JCBs

Correct, but for some reason manitou seem to have missed the memo on that as most dont have this block on the tilt and isnt an easy thing to sort depending on the model.

if its a servo joystick then will need a tap/shut off valve putting on to the pilot line operating the tilt, if its manual levers then some kind of mechanical block on the linkage will have to be made.

Sandersons, matbros all had tilt lock as standard and so do most jcbs either via electric switch or a pin to lock the linkage so why manitou and possiibly others seems to overlook this i dont really know! about 12 years ago or so on most models they put a switch in to lock the whole joystick out but thats not really very usefull

I remember older jcbs having the pin to put in next to the joystick to lock the side to side movement. Trouble was (might of just been our one) the self leveling was a bit 'out' so after a few ups and downs in the man crate it felt like you were about to be tipped out!

Breaking the law if it’s an non emergency use anyway so might as well break it twice. Probably easier to get a man harness than sort the tilt lock.

Yes, I read the safety details for man baskets and specified this as an option on my Manitou. It wasn’t a standard option and caused the dealer a bit of stress. All works via an additional in cab switch on my machine
