Temik

Got those toxic granules in my mouth on accident years ago, just wondering how it did not affect me or have any symptoms?? I washed it out immediately. Research shows that recovery is spontaneous and cholinesterase levels return to normal after exposure. I’m LUCKY!!

I used to work as a distributor agronomist in East Anglia. They used to let customers have the use of TMA 4 horstine machines if they bought the Temik.
I was the trainee and used to have to go out to farms if they were having problems with them. The machines had no maintenance done on them between farms and the farmers didn’t ever grease them or check them before filling them. I used to get loads of moaning and was expected to empty the bloody things to clean the metering out to get it to run freely. Felt awful loads of times afterwards. Horrible stuff should never have got approval.

Evil stuff . I used to put it on with the applicator do a round then either straight on the other tractor to work it in. One day did a round and got called for tea. Came back to work it in and found half a dozen dead pheasants. Which brought home how nasty it was.

Dad very nearly had lost his spaniel to Temik. He was cleaning or doing some maintenance to the beet drill in the yard and his dog came for a look and a plod around the yard like they do and within 15 minutes the dog was laying on the floor foaming from the mouth and having convulsion.

Dad scooped the dog up chucked it In the motor and went straight to the vets. Luckily dad had sense to grab a label off a temik box as he left. He gave the label to the vet. The vet gave the dog a shot of something and within a few minutes the dog was back up on its feet. The vet said without the label and dads quick thinking the dog would have been dead within the hour. Dad wasnt aware of any temik being spilt but the dog got hold of some from somewhere. After that dad never would use temik or the replacements which came after it,Marshall, oncal, vydate ect.

Worst was when the ruddy machines would turn up with Avadex still gumming up the metering cartridge. Work of the Devil.
Hadnt got a combination drill at the time, but thought that might be far and away better means of incorporating it.

wow . . .

I used to handle a lot of Temik growing cotton in the bad old days of the 90’s . . .

every tractor & ute had a bottle of Atropine tablets in them.
place where I used it the most, the boss would come out to refill the boxes in full haz mat gear & then go back to the office for shower & change of clothes, so the tractor drivers didn’t get exposed to it or risk being contaminated all day
I have seen a dog die after sniffing some granules in the ground
I have seen people get nose bleeds from the smell
The smell used to give me headaches
It is / was nasty evil stuff - I am so glad we don’t use it anymore

granules in the mouth . . .
apart from asking the obvious ( how did they get there ), I think you are very lucky

we never handled it without gloves & eye / face masks as a bare minimum, even though it was all closed “lock & load” systems, you still had to be very careful crawling around underneath planters in case you came into contact with it, or scratching in the plant row looking for seed . . .

Welcome along.
Temik used to give me a headache, probably not good for you.
I did manage to avoid eating it though.

probably not good for you ? ? Understatement of the year
It was an S7 chemical here, that could only be bought, stored or used by accredited operators . . .

nasty nasty sh!t

thank god we don’t use it anymore. I can only begin to imagine how bad it was for soil life / microbes, apart from anything else . . .

Definitely scary, I thought I was going to die at any second. Just know I talked to God during the moment, he was watching over me and saved me. I truly believe that. My tongue even started bleeding

atropine was the antidote.
We used to have to carry it when using temik planting cotton, back in the bad old days
