Yes tha
It was amazing to see that the record was held by a New Years Eve 11 years ago.

Widely quoted by the climate change worriers.

less quoted was the previous record for New Years day (higher than the old New years Eve record I think) which was for New Years Day 1916
Early days in the industrial revolution so what caused that?

The rest of the northern hemisphere are having record snow falls and cold temperatures.

The meridional jetstream is pushing cold polar air down across North America and Russia/East Asia whereas we are benefiting from warmer air pushing up from the tropics.

A little research will point to the average January temperature 1916, not been beaten yet.

Unbelievably mild at the moment. Grass I'm sure appears to keep shooting/staying green, bulbs are shooting, other plants are budding. With any luck we'll get some cold now this month or at least in February or we'll have winter in March with cold lasting into April and early May....

Improper weather and nobody applying N what sort of affect is this going to have on crops and supply....

It doesnt take much of a shift to bring that -30C purple down onto us! Hope it stays where it is.......................1947 Winter didnt start until end January, with Xmas 1946 to New Years Day being unseasonably mild.

Let’s hope it’s not saving the winter weather for a bad spell later like 2013.

That almost killed me!
Aye, missed that. Went to NZ on 3rd March at home ready to spread fert , drill the spring barley, all looking good for turnout about 20th.
Tend to keep radio silance when we are away, but had heard bits about snow at home
Flying home on 28th was thinking Denmark looked a bit bare with snow in the dyke backs . Flying over South Northumberland it looked like the whole countryside had been sprayed with roundup.
At home they had hardly turned a wheel in 3 weeks
