Help. I have rented a 5.00ha field off the same landlord for 44 years. He now informs me that he has sold the field to someone else. That person rang me up and informed me that he was my new landlord and would i give him vacant possession. I said no only if and when he got planning permission for change of use. He put the phone down and will not answer my calls. I do not have a name or address to send the rent which is now due. There is no tenancy agreement. What do i do?

You need to call the Tenant Farmers Association and get advice, they can't act as your agent but they are your first port of call - it costs less than £200 for a year of support which is probably what a consultation with your agent will cost you.

http://www.tfa.org.uk/ you can call them in the morning and you'll probably get to speak to Kim who can help put you in touch with the right person, 0118 930 6130.

You're probably in a fairly good position so don't throw it away with poor advice.

Speak to agent/ag. Solicitor ASAP.
You will have an AHA protected oral tenancy which you can assign. The trick is to assign to a limited company and the tenancy lasts forever as limited company never dies.
If landlord being advised he will serve you a section 6 notice which stops the above.

got on with your ex landlord ? you would have thought he would of said something to you, even if just to see if you would offer more. To do as ISCO, says, is a pretty low trick, but if l/lord has been a right c### over the years ...………...

As I have previously said just stating the law. Never done it myself but know of people who have had it done to them.

Had a friend who had this done to them and they obtained barristers opinion which was nothing they could do. All land agents/solo itors would advise tenant of this otherwise they could be sued for negligence.
It is up to tenant if they take this route.

Send rent money and letter the same as you always have done? Keep copy.
"You don't know any different":)

Word letter like : Rent for said field(give SS grid number, name etc location,) from xxx to xxxx same as paid in full for the last 44 years ,unhindered .

Think you have or formed a full aha tenancy and they can't kick you out. (Don't take my word for it)
And contact top agricultural Solicitors asap like Burges Salmon etc.etc.
DO NOT VACATE OR SAY ANYTHING TO THEM untill advice take .
