Hi
We have a Terex 2007 6 ton dumper, bought it a few months ago ran fine for a few weeks, then when we came to start after it had been loaded it would not start, when you turn the key was just a click at the starter motor,
left it for 15 minutes and it starts up ok, it can be fine for a day or two then does it again,
we replaced the starter motor all was fine for a couple of weeks, then today after been used for a few hours did the same again just a click from the starter motor,
put a jump lead direct from the battery to starter still just clicked, did the same on the earth, did not make any difference, left it for 10 minutes then started fine,
so new starter motor, positive and negative cables ok, battery fine,
any idea where to look next
Thanks
John

I assume you've actually tested the battery? And checked the charging voltage?

Disconnect the starter solenoid engergizer wire. Put a jump wire from the starter energizer terminal to battery positive and see if it starts.
If it does start, reconnect the original wire and measure voltage at the starter solenoid energizer wire when the ignition is in the start position. Voltage should be very close to battery voltage, if it's low it indicates voltage drop in the circuit, up to you to find where it is. Could be a safety switch, starter relay, ignition switch, multi-plug - I don't know the circuit, they're all different. Or just install an auxillary starter relay.

Have you put a cheap ass starter motor on it instead of quality?

Check battery connections and earths.
Rig a 55watt bulb up to the trigger wire on starter and see if it lights it up nicely for a few minutes with out going dim.

Hi
Many thanks for the reply’s will give that a try
We did think it could be a faulty in the new starter motor so the supplier swapped it for another but still have the problem every so often,

Yeah but what starter are you fitting. No offense but there are tons of cheap starters out there that fit a perky and often worse than the old one you take off😂

Basically if it's not an iskra mahle gear reduction it's not worth buying.
