Terminals for shedders

Just sell him before clipping and buy a new one that's already clipped.

I know a lad who buys a bull every year.
He only runs a bull while he's working, then sells him on, doesn't have to bother about wintering him

Plenty hill boys do that with their BFLs...

But they go a step farther and don't worry about selling them on, just phone NFSco

It would be alright if it was a few rams. shearing one sheep a year is a pain in the backside, and the rest of my body tbh.

A shedding terminal would suit my system
Myomax Easycare??

Used Myomax tup lambs on my EC ewes this time... Lambs look on easily a par with last years crop from Terminal Romney or NZ Texx Tups. Proof will come soon! :)

Got one absolute cracker of an EC MM Tup lamb in the cades... Not been ringed... ;)

you know what lamb will be dead by the end of the weekend now then. 😉

Just for you @CopperBeech , a pure Exlana ewe with triplets (which started out as quins) by a Texel ram. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.👍

On your original question, would it not be sensible to keep as many sales options open as possible for any terminal X lambs? I don’t really see much advantage in shedding terminals (apart from for the ram breeder), as surely most lambs would be gone before they were shedding anyway?
I honestly don’t know the answer, which is why I asked 😂 Call it market research

In my mind I can see a few reasons but that may just be me!

Re age of shedding - weirdly some of my lambs shed about 8 weeks.

When you were a small boy at school, did you used to spend a large amount of your time standing in the corner facing the wall ?

I’m sure they’ll sort themselves out given time, as they’re struggling to rear enough lambs to even replace themselves.
I even have a pair of them in the singles paddock, sharing parenting duties of a tiny lamb.😂
There are shedders and there are shedders, we bought some Wiltshire's last year as they're the main shedding breed here in NZ, they supposedly had good genetics being based on ewes from a large farm near me and rams from there and another well respect flock. They scanned alright, 175%, but lambed terribly 113% of the 50 we bought, only 32 are left and 9 of them went to a Texel this mating due to lameness. Lamb weaning weights were the same as the lambs from my own shedding ewes. My own shedding ewes weaned 197% and even my ewe hoggets weaned 148%. And haven't had the same ewe losses. We've persevered with the Wiltshire ewes for another year but I things will have to change dramatically for them to stay after that.

Seeing that the past 10 days... Look a right bloody mess, then others are as clean as a whistle. Of to a field with some good hedges after the weeeknd, which'll clean them up.

I do like those little pink nosed pig sheep! You'll have to give me a shout when you've brought some up this way so I can have a nose at them and maybe even part with some cash dollars.

You could always use a southdown on the sheep who's wool all falls off I know a man with a few 😂 over a Welsh type of sheep they sire a sturdy lamb that does well eating stones and nettles. Stand out from the crowd 😉

I want an easy lambing fast growing wool shedding colour marked terminal ram.

Shedding Hampshire down?
I've got a couple of them, Hamp x EC. TBH you would hardly believe it, given how much wool their sires have. Although I'm treating them as a virtually zero care meat store rather than potential stud stock. Best sheep meat I've eaten was from a Hampshire X gimmer killed in November of her second year.

Have tried Southdown’s. Too variable and wooly for me.
